Quiet west, dark sand, surf without Canggu crowds — a long way from DPS.

Balian, Bali

Balian is a west-coast village with volcanic sand and a backpacker pace. You come here if Canggu feels too dense, not if you want clubs.

From DPS it is often 1.5–2.5 hours. Two to four nights at the end of a trip make sense, not as your only base if you also want Ubud and the southern temples.

Surf is the point; swimming depends on the swell. Infrastructure is thin: few ATMs, few restaurants, dark early.

It is not a stop on the way to somewhere famous. Treat it as a destination, not a hop between the airport and Ubud.
